So…
On Friday, a small group from Lewes Uncut made use of the facilities in Barclays Bank to
plan and try out some creative ideas for the Drama Club in Natwest the following day.
Barclays was chosen as it was not open on Saturdays, but had plenty of space.
It would also have been a shame to let them off the hook after the recent disclosure that Barclays paid £113m of corporation tax on its £11.6bn of annual profits –a rate amounting to just 1%.
We explained this to the manager, who was very obliging after we explained our intentions to use the bank as a meeting and rehearsal space, and made us most welcome.
Of course all of this was just a warm up for Saturday, when Nat West hosted the Lewes Uncut Drama Club’s re enactment of the Swing Riots of the 1830s complete with members of the police playing the parts of parish constables in modern day dress.
Tax payers have an 84% shareholding in RBS (which owns NatWest) after a 20 billion bail out, so it really was high time for a ‘Bail- In’ to reclaim ‘our’ space !
